Jardiance Drug for Type 2 Diabetes Disease Approved By FDA

 Type 2 Diabetes Disease

The U.S. FDA announced on Friday that it accepted a new medication called as Jardiance, in order to help in fighting the type 2 diabetes.

Jardiance (empagliflozin) can be consumed alone or added to current regimens of treatment to control levels of blood sugar in the general diabetes management.

The FDA also suggested that Jardiance should be consumed with lifestyle changes, for example eating a healthy diet and exercising habitually. The combination of medicine and modification of lifestyle might improve management of blood sugar for individuals with type 2 diabetes.

Over 26 million Americans are presently affected by type 2 diabetes, which makes it about 90 percent of diabetes cases, according to the FDA.

Jardiance, which is made by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, falls into the category of diabetes medicines recognized as sodium glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors. These medicines work by stopping blood sugar, from getting re-absorbed in the kidneys. This means that additional glucose is emitted by the kidneys and levels of blood sugar reduces. Other medications in this category of medications includes Farxiga (dapagliflozin) and Invokana (canagliflozin).

The Study of Jardiance Type 2 Diabetes Disease Drug

The FDA said the effectiveness and safety of Jardiance was verified in seven clinical experiments which involved almost 4,500 individuals having type 2 diabetes. The studies presented that Jardiance enhanced levels of blood sugar as compared to a “dummy” placebo medication.

The medication has also been considered to be used together with other medicines, for example metformin, pioglitazone (Actos), sulfonylureas, and insulin. The FDA stressed that it is ordering the post-marketing research on Jardiance, having the focus on any possible cardiovascular effects, in addition to effectiveness and safety in children.

Dehydration and Side Effects of Jardiance Type 2 Diabetes Disease Drug

Jardiance can initiate dehydration, which can make a person have dizziness, low blood pressure and impaired function of kidney, the FDA said. This means that ageing individuals and the people with already impaired function of kidney might be at amplified risk when consuming Jardiance. According to the FDA the medication should not be consumed by individuals having type 1 diabetes.
