Lyme disease is an infection that is caused by the bite of an affected tick. The Lyme disease is caused by a bacterium known as Borrelia burgdorferi. It is also known as Lyme barreliosis.

Lyme disease is transmitted in the humans by the bite of a specific kind of tick. In most of the cases people didn’t get affected by the bite of the tick. In most of the cases in US, it takes 24 to 36 hours in spreading bacteria. In Europe it takes 24 hours in spreading bacteria that contain Lyme disease. Many of the people don’t feel a tick on their body.

Symptoms of Lyme disease

The symptoms take 3 and 36 days to appear after being bitten by the infected tick. Once the bacteria passed in the blood streams of the body through infected tick it begins to originate the symptoms. The bacterium mostly effects heart, nerves, joints and skin. The symptoms appear with three stages. The common symptoms of Lyme disease encompass.

  • Heart problems
  • Numbness
  • Speech problems

  • Stage 1- early reaction to the skin
  • Stage 2- disseminated disease
  • Stage 3- persistent Lyme disease

Treatment of Lyme disease

In the early stage of Lyme disease patients are treated with a proper course of antibiotics, which helps to recover completely and quickly. Commonly prescribed antibiotics for the treatment are doxycycline, amoxicillin, or cefuroxime axetil. Patients with neurological or cardiac illnesses needed intravenous treatment and are treated by the antibiotics which include ceftriaxone or penicillin.

The course of antibiotics contains some precautions and conditions that are

  • The drug selection depends on the stage of the Lyme disease and symptoms.
  • The person starts to take antibiotic after 72 hours when the tick is removed.
  • The tick has been attached to once body for 36 hours.

Some of the herbs are also used to treat Lyme disease. Some of the vitamins B complex, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and magnesium supplements are used by the people for the treatment but it is not yet evidenced that how it is beneficial.
